Circuit

Connections
Make the following connections carefully:
- Connect the positive terminal of the 9V battery to one end of the 330 Ω resistor.
- Connect the other end of the 330 Ω resistor to the anodes of both LEDs.
- Connect the cathodes of the LEDs to the collector of the BC547 transistor.
- Connect the emitter of the BC547 directly to the battery’s negative terminal.
- Connect one outer pin of the 10K potentiometer to the battery’s positive terminal.
- Connect the other outer pin of the potentiometer to the battery’s negative terminal.
- Connect the middle pin (wiper) of the potentiometer to the base of the BC547 through the 1 kΩ resistor.
Now rotate the potentiometer to control the LED brightness.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I use a 12V battery instead of a 9V battery?
Yes, but you may need to recalculate the resistor values to keep the LED current within a safe range.
Can I use more LEDs?
Yes. However, if you add more LEDs, ensure the transistor and resistor values are suitable for the increased current.
Can I replace the BC547 with another transistor?
Yes. Similar NPN transistors like BC548, BC337, or 2N2222 can often be used, though their current ratings may differ.
Does this project require Arduino?
No. This is a completely analog electronics project and works without any programming.
Can this circuit control high-power LEDs?
No. It’s intended for standard low-current LEDs. High-power LEDs require a different driver circuit.
